SUPPORT A BADAKHSHAN ORPHAN
The children of Badakhshan orphanage each have a story to tell, and dreams for their future. Each child needs at least three sponsors to meet their most basic needs. Meet the children below, and help secure their future.
Rafia
Age: 8 Months Ref: 23-2004

Rafia is an eight-month old girl who was brought to the Badakhshan Hope House after her mother was tragically killed after her birth. Her father was left to look after her however, Rafia’s father lost his legs in an accident some years ago, and is struggling to support his 7 children. Before Mahboba’s Promise stepped in, Rafia was almost sold to fund her father’s expensive medical treatment. This little girl requires urgent support, treatment and nourishment; such as milk, nappies and clothes, etc.
Hajira
Age: 7 Years Ref: 23-1923

Hajira was brought to Badakhshan Orphanage with her two siblings after her mother was imprisoned and her father became a national army officer, and was required to relocate to another province. Hajira is now supported by Mahboba’s Promise and recently started school. Hajira can’t wait to move into her new home once the Hope House has been built.
Bahar

Bahar is a 3-month old baby who is in need of milk. Bahar’s mother, Sarah, could not nurse Bahar due to her failing health. Since she did not have enough money, she used to put one scoop of baby formula in the water to feed Bahar and one scoop for her 18 month old son. Many mothers cannot afford to buy milk and their children suffer from lack of nutrition, their stomach is bloated and the babies are not in a good shape. Bahar is one of these children..
Mahdia

Badakhshan orphanage has a lot of orphans who are under the age of one. Babies need milk for healthy growth and development. Mahdia is a 10-month old baby. Her mother is in prison and no one knows where her father has disappeared to. Since she has no other relatives, she is going to be in our Hope House forever.
Aabid

Aabid’s mother was imprisoned and does not want to see Aabid. His father has disappeared. The relatives were contacted by the Mahboba's Promise staff in Afghanistan, unfortunately no one agreed to take him or come and see him on visitation day.
Haaji
Age: 6 Years Ref: 33-1961

Haaji’s father sadly passed away. With the sole income provider of the family gone, Haaji remembers going to sleep without dinner while his mother promised breakfast in the morning. Unfortunately, breakfast was not always a certainty. Haaji now lives at Badakhshan Orphanage where he is being supported, educated, accommodated and given all the care in the world. His favourite food is roast chicken, and we look forward to any opportunity to treat him with it.
Ahmad

Muteeb

Irfan

Amir & Irfan and their family are victims of war. Their father died in military service seeking to protect his nation, forcing the boys to live with their grandfather. However, the boys’ grandfather is too old to work and was unable to provide for children. At Badakhshan orphanage, Amir and Irfan can receive an education and have the best chance at improving their lives. The boys are very happy at Badakhshan. Amir hopes that one day he will be an engineer, and Irfan is enjoying the opportunity to learn English and Mathematics at school.
Hussain

Hussain’s father was kidnapped and murdered by territorial aggressors. Hussain and his sister were left helpless as their mother, who is uneducated as is too often the case with Afghan widows, could not provide the life that these two bright children deserve. Hussian and his sister have found support and shelter at Badakhshan Orphanage where they can continue to grow and live happy, healthy lives.
Riyaz
Age: 6 Years Ref: 33-1956

Riyaz was rejected by his stepfather and was left homeless without support. Soon after, his grandmother took him in and raised him. Riyaz’s grandmother is now too old to provide for him, and cannot afford a proper education for Riyaz. Since living at Badakhshan Orphanage, Riyaz has begun schooling. He loves to practice speaking English, and his favourite snack is a cherry.
Hassan
Age: 6 Years Ref: 33-1974

Hassan's life completely changed one year ago when his mother become seriously ill and passed away. Hassan and two of his brothers were having a very difficult time with their father. His father had no access to the support he needed to raise Hassan and his brothers.
In order to give Hassan the opportunity for a brighter future, his father enrolled him with the Badakhshan Orphanage. Since then, Hassan is being educated and cared for at Badakshahn Orphanage.
Amir

After her husband died, Arshad’s mother decided to re-marry in order to find a place to live and provide a safe home for her family. However, Arshad’s stepfather did not accept Arshad as his son. Arshad endured years of extreme physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his stepfather, and was forbidden from attending school. At Badakhshan Orphanage, Arshad is safe from a cruel domestic life and can go to school so that, one day, he can live a better, independent life.
Karim

Karim, Kabira, Zaakir, and Farooq share the same tragic story and mother. Farooq was born out of wedlock, an affair for which their mother was sent to prison. Farooq was born while his mother was incarcerated. The condition of the jail wreaked a terrible toll on the newborn Farooq, and he now requires special attention and care. Currently Karim and his two brothers and sister are living in Badakhshan Orphanage after their family fell apart.

Shabna

Shabna and Ibrahim’s father murdered their mother under the suspicion that she was being unfaithful. With father jailed, and mother torn away from them, Shabna and Ibrahim faced a life of destitution. Badakhshan now supports the children and provides a safe environment for them to develop and be happy.
Ayaan

Ayaan is a victim of family violence and divorce, with Ayaan’s father leaving him and his mother. As Ayaan’s mother has no income, she was unable to give Ayaan the life he needs to prosper. Now living at Badakhshan orphanage, Ayaan will enrol in school next year where he is most looking forward to studying English and working with computers.
Daaniya
Age: 8 Years Ref: 23-1973

Daaniya's father was a farmer. Tired from years of hard work, Daaniya’s father suffered from double kidney failure. Daaniya’s family had no money for treatment of her father, and he passed away. Little Daaniya's mother was left without support, and without a means to generate income. In spite of her issues, she always wanted a better life for her children - she wanted her children to be educated. Daaniya’s mother placed her into the care of Badakhshan Orphanage, where she is now being supported, educated, fed, and cared for. Given what she has seen in her short time, it is no surprise that she wishes to be a doctor in future.
Aadhil
Age: 5 Years Ref: 33-1949

Aadhil has suffered hardship since his mother passed away several years ago. Due to illness and lack of income, Aadhil’s father was unable to provide him with adequate care. Aadhil is far happier now living at Badakhshan Orphanage and being under the care of Mahboba’s Promise. He loves apples, eating Qabeli Palaw, and playing soccer. He dreams of becoming a teacher and, with the help of Badakhshan Orphanage, Aadhil may one day realise his dreams.
Naaz
Age: 10 Years Ref: 23-1965

Naaz was living with her family in Badakhshan province when it was captured by occupying forces. Her father was killed during the fighting. After Naaz's father died, her mother was unable to care for her. Carrying unimaginable stress from losing her husband, compounded by an inability to provide for her daughter, Naaz’s mother suffers from crippling mental illness. Naaz’s mother wishes her all the necessities of life that she might not have to endure what the mother has personally. Here at Badakhshan, Naaz has the opportunity to attain an education, and the environment for a better life. Naaz plans to become a doctor, to heal the sick and injured.
Ehsaan
Age: 6 Years Ref: 33-1950

Last year Ehsaan’s mother succumbed to a debilitating illness. Ehsaan’s father was left alone, struggling to raise Ehsaan and his brothers. Badakhshan orphanage has given Ehsaan a better life and an opportunity of education. Ehsaan loves that he now has many brothers and sisters whom he lives with at the orphanage.
Ibrahim

Malika

Malika is a beautiful girl, who tries not to let her vision impairment slow her down. Sadly, her mother passed away from illness, and her father left soon after. With no home and no one to care for her, Malika has found a home at Badakhshan orphanage. She keeps asking when she gets her eyesight back.
Fathima

In Afghanistan, adultery is illegal and punishable by imprisonment. Fathima is the child of such an illegal relationship, and was born in jail while her mother was imprisoned for adultery. Fathima spent her first months in jail, but Badakhshan Orphanage can help alleviate those living in situations beyond their control and give opportunity to those living life seemingly devoid of hope.
Arif

Arif’s mother was a young girl who had an affair with a man and became pregnant. After delivering the baby, Arif’s mother was arrested by the police and sent to a shelter where she was unable care for her son. Badakhshan Orphanage will give Arif the opportunity of a better life.
