Devastated by decades of conflict, Afghanistan is one of the most dangerous places in the world for a child to live. Thousands are homeless and living on the streets with no access to education, food, or shelter. The impact of the pandemic, together with the downturn of economic circumstances, has aggravated the level of poverty experienced by the people of Afghanistan. Many children have been unable to attend school since mid-march, and the majority of these students have no access to distance learning, leaving over 1 million children with little to no education. Closed schools and fewer jobs have led to an increase in the number of street kids in Afghanistan. Every day, children head to the streets to beg. Ten-year-old Hader spends his days wandering the streets of Kabul, often in hazardous environments, to sell chewing gum. Like many street kids, it’s up to Hader to provide for his family, often working up to 16 hours a day for a meagre income.

Mahboba’s Promise aims to improve the lives of these street kids by providing them with schooling, food, and a safe environment. The ‘rehabilitation of street children’ project aims to set up safe houses to help take children like Hader off the streets of Kabul and provide them with access to a safe and secure environment. The goal is to establish an education house which will provide secure shelter during the day for the street children of Kabul through which we will provide nutritious meals and teach essential mathematic, English and Islamic studies to the children. This will not only improve the lives of these children through education, but remove them from the hazardous and dangerous streets and lower their risk of malnutrition. We need your help to sustain the project and to ensure we are able to provide the much needed assistance and rehabilitation to street children. Because no child deserves to go hungry, be without a roof over their heads or die of a preventable disease!

Donations to Mahboba’s Promise will fund much needed furniture, school equipment, and food supplies for the safe house.
