Project Hope is our initiative to empower these resettled individuals as they navigate the challenges of integration into Australian society. With your support, we want to bridge theses gaps in settlement services, providing a wholistic framework of support to each resettled child, to ensure they are thriving in their new found homes.

To deliver Project Hope the following service model will be deployed as a wholistic settlement approach focused on:

The model is predicated on the idea that Mahboba and the organisation are best placed to help these children because the strength of our relationship with them. Mahboba is the mother figure for these children. Many of these came from our orphanages in Afghanistan and are intimately connected to the organisation as a result. Protecting this relationship is critical to the success of these children’s integration into the communities they now reside in.

The Struggles of Resettlement

After the evacuation efforts, Mahboba’s Promise has worked diligently to provide for the well-being of the evacuated children, collaborating with government organisations, schools, sports programs, and other community organisations to facilitate their integration into Australian society. These children, who had already endured so much, now faced the daunting task of rebuilding their lives in a foreign land. Despite the warm welcome from the Australian community, significant gaps in support remained – gaps that threatened to crush their hopes and dreams.

The Evacuation:
A Race Against time

In August 2021, as the heart-wrenching images of Afghanistan’s fall flashed across our screens, Mahboba’s Promise sprang into action with a mission fuelled by love and urgency. Led by our courageous Founder, Mahboba Rawi OAM, and Vice-President Sourosh (Nawid) Cina, our team embarked on a perilous journey to rescue the most vulnerable – our orphans, our staff, our family.

Amidst chaos and danger, they risked everything, navigating government roadblocks and deadly threats. By October 2022, our relentless efforts paid off. We brought over 100 at-risk individuals to safety in Australia, including the largest group of evacuated unaccompanied minors in Australian history. This remarkable feat captured national attention and earned Mahboba and Sourosh the prestigious Australian Human Rights Medal of 2022.

Against all odds, Sourosh and Mahboba have successfully evacuated nearly 100 vulnerable Afghans to Australia.
