Widows Permaculture Training

Last year, 30 widows in our outreach network participated in permaculture training. The training involves developing their skills to enable them to assist with the everyday running of the permaculture farm. Apart from learning planting and harvesting techniques, the women have also been learning how to preserve fruits and vegetables picked at the farm.

The produce is then available all year round to the widows, their families and the Hope House children. This has helped improve the food security of the people in our outreach network as even over the winter months they have access to fruit and vegetables. In acountry such as Afghanistan, where bread and rice are diet staples, the preserved fruit and vegetables are also helping to improve the nutritional intake of the people we support.

Mahboba has plans of expanding this preserving work in the coming years to enable widows to sell the preserved produce to local markets.

When you sponsor a widow, you are helping them to access training such as those on our permaculture farm.
