Launched in 2023 in collaboration with the GIM Foundation, Strings of Hope is a unique capacity building program.
It empowers women across Kabul and Panjshir Provinces (Afghanistan) through seamstress and tapestry training, allowing the most vulnerable women them to become self sufficient and secure their economic future.
Launched in 2023 when a group of 30 women received tailoring skills training from local experienced instructors, the Strings of Hope program has gone from strength to strength in a short time. In addition to the training, the 30 women were provided with equipment and materials such as sewing machines, fabrics, and needles to apply the skills they learned. The rest, as they say, is history!
Building on the success of our first program, we’ve gone from strength to strength. Some 78 women have now reached economic stability for themselves and their family by learning new skills. 500 traditional Afghan bags produced by these women were sold in Australia. We now have partnerships ready to go, and many more women to help.

Mahboba’s Promise is an Australian non-profit committed to aiding underprivileged women and children and other vulnerable groups in Afghanistan and Australia.
Founded in 2001 by Mahboba Rawi, an Afghan refugee who is now an Australian citizen, the organisation was established based on her firsthand experience of the profound impact of decades of war and civil unrest on her home country.
For 22 years using her deep understanding of the challenges in Afghanistan, Mahboba’s Promise has been able to deliver responsive, adaptable and impactful assistance directly to orphans and widows in the country and surrounding regions.
Our Hope Houses have been the cornerstone of our sustainable development efforts in Afghanistan since our organisation’s inception.
