Ramadan Appeal

Keep Afghanistan in your hearts this Holy Month Of Ramadan

Give A Bag Of Rice

Help us deliver 2,000 rice bags to Afghan Widows and their families by the end of the Holy Month.

This Ramadan we are aiming to deliver 2,000 bags of rice and other food supplies to Afghan families who need it most.

A single bag will provide enough food for a medium sized family for a couple of months. Providing food is an important way of alleviating the financial stress felt by many widows in Afghanistan, whilst also ensuring young children are receiving nutritious meals.

Look into your hearts this Ramadan and give to Afghanistan’s most vulnerable. Help us reach over 2,000 Widows.

Ramadan Message

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah was Barakatuh, Brothers and Sisters.

It has been a devastating couple of months for my Brothers and Sisters around the world. Like many, my heart has been left broken after the events that occurred in Christchurch last month. But despite our grief, we united. Billions of people around the globe came together and made peace despite the dark times we face. Yet, the events in Christchurch happen every day in Afghanistan, and I fear the blood that is shed is ignored.

During my last visit to Afghanistan, 92 bombs exploded in one day during election time. The concerning amount of widows and orphans in Afghanistan has increased in the past 3 years due to the frequency of these attacks. Unfortunately, we rarely hear about these massacres and the dire consequences they have on innocent people. Muslim people in Afghanistan are dying in silence.

This Ramadan, look into your hearts and donate your Zakat to the orphans and widows in Afghanistan. Christchurch is in the mind and heart of us all. Let’s not forget Afghanistan.

May Allah reward you,

Mahboba Rawi

Ramadan FAQs

Most frequent questions and answers concerning Ramadan donations.

The literal meaning of Zakat is ‘to cleanse’ or ‘purification’. In the Islamic faith, Zakat means purifying your wealth for the will of Allah (SWT); to acknowledge that everything we own belongs to Allah (SWT) and to work towards the betterment of the Muslim Ummah. According to Islamic regulations, Zakat is 2.5% of one year’s total cumulative wealth. This amount is then distributed to the poor.

The word Fitr means the same as Iftaar, “breaking a fast”, and it comes from the same root word as Futoor, meaning “breakfast”.

It is a duty that is compulsory on every Muslim, whether male or female, minor or adult as long as he/she has the means to do so. The head of the household may pay the Fitrah on behalf of family members.

Fitrah is only compulsory for a particular period of time. If one misses the time period without a good reason, he has sinned and cannot make up for it. This charity becomes obligatory from sunset on the last day of fasting and remains obligatory until the beginning of the Eid prayer (that is, shortly after sunrise on the following day). However, it can be paid prior to the above mentioned period, as many of the companions of the Prophet (SAW) used to pay Fitrah a couple of days before Eid.

Fidya is to be paid in circumstances where one is unable to fast due to illness or old age. A donation of $12 per missed fast (days) is required for each individual. This donation aims to feed the hungry two meals a day.

Kaffarah is also a donation type within the Islamic tradition for individuals who deliberately miss or break a day of fast during the month of Ramadan without a valid reason. According to Islamic guidelines, if a person misses a day of fasting unnecessarily, he or she should either fast for 60 consecutive days or feed 60 masakeen (underprivileged people) per day.

The estimated cost is $12 per person for 60 people, which equals $720 a day for each missed or broken-fast day.

Sadaqah Jariyah is the act of voluntary ongoing charity and is one of the easiest ways to help those in need in Afghanistan. Sadaqah helps those most in need and can be of any amount.

It is believed by many that the reward for these acts is so great that is can continue long after an individual has passed, so long as the benefits of the act continue to be felt by others.
