Ramadan FAQs

At Mahboba’s Promise, we understand that Zakat is a fundamental aspect of Islam that allows us to help those most in need. We ensure that all of our projects are Zakat compliant and are directed towards those who need it most.

Our Zakat-compliant projects cover a range of areas, including disaster relief and development projects such as water solutions, education and food security. We are committed to fulfilling this promise to help those in need, and your Zakat donations through Mahboba’s Promise bring joy to the children and women in Afghanistan.

When it comes to paying Zakat, it is essential to note that you need to pay 2.5% of your total wealth which has been in your possession for at least one physical year (Haul).

Zakat al-Mal, commonly known as Zakat, becomes due when a person’s wealth reaches the nisab amount and can be paid anytime during the year. On the other hand, Zakat al-Fitr is paid by the head of the household for each member of the family before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, and the amount for 2023 is $17. We recommend that you consult with your local imam or scholar for further clarification on the exact amounts applicable to your particular circumstances.

It is recommended to pay Zakat al-Fitr on behalf of every member of the family, including unborn children after the 120th day of pregnancy, according to some scholars. However, it is not viewed as obligatory. Most scholars agree that Zakat al-Fitr should be paid on behalf of the baby after his or her birth. We advise you to seek further clarification from your local imam or scholar to ensure you are making the appropriate decision.

It is recommended to pay Zakat al-Fitr before the Eid prayer or any day during Ramadan. Some schools of thought even allow Zakat al-Fitr to be paid before Ramadan. If you need more information, we suggest consulting with your local imam or scholar.

The food program’s design includes purchasing food locally, which in turn helps to stimulate the local economy in Afghanistan.

Ramadan is a unique time that brings about an increased sense of spiritual and social responsibility and awareness. At Mahboba’s Promise, we are excited to support your efforts to take action in your community during Ramadan by raising awareness and funds for those in need around the world. There are several ways to get involved, including hosting an Mahboba’s Promise iftar, giving a talk at your school or university and volunteering with us.
