This landmark project promotes environmentally friendly farming practices to maintain healthy and sustainable soil mineral levels and provide crucial food security for Afghan communities.
Established in 2010, the Permaculture Farm Program is a collaborative project initiated by our organisation and Muslim Aid Australia in the Kabul Province. It continues to be a huge success, encouraging the cultivation of healthy food which allows communities to benefit from essential nutrients that can otherwise be missing from their food supply.
Healthy, mineral-rich food is a crucial need for communities impacted by poverty. In 2023, the farm celebrated a successful harvest of peaches, plums, cherries, apples, grapes, and potatoes. The project also successfully cultivated hing seeds, an important medicinal plant in Afghanistan.

Mahboba’s Promise is an Australian non-profit committed to aiding underprivileged women and children and other vulnerable groups in Afghanistan and Australia.
Founded in 2001 by Mahboba Rawi, an Afghan refugee who is now an Australian citizen, the organisation was established based on her firsthand experience of the profound impact of decades of war and civil unrest on her home country.
For 22 years using her deep understanding of the challenges in Afghanistan, Mahboba’s Promise has been able to deliver responsive, adaptable and impactful assistance directly to orphans and widows in the country and surrounding regions.
Our Hope Houses have been the cornerstone of our sustainable development efforts in Afghanistan since our organisation’s inception.
Frequently Asked Questions
A Permaculture Farm Program sponsorship is a monthly commitment you make as a sponsor to this innovative program. The Permaculture Farm Program is a unique program that helps Afghan communities cultivate healthy food through sustainable farming practices.
The program teaches permaculture farming techniques to vulnerable communities, enabling them to become more self-sufficient than before, and in turn secure their stability through healthy, economically sustainable food production.
At this stage, we are unable to offer annual, lump-sum payment options. For our work to succeed, we prefer that you choose a monthly, recurring sponsorship option. It really does help our work go that much further!
We describe further above on this page what each option allows us to achieve. Some giving options focus on providing classes; others allow us to buy the raw materials needed to allow Afghans to learn these crucial farming skills.
If you cancel your sponsorship, we will stop debiting your bank account for your monthly sponsorship in the month immediately after your cancellation.
