Transforming orphans’ well-being holistically

Our program has been successful in achieving positive behavioural change in the children we house, who have been devastated by trauma. Massive improvements in their behaviour and psychological well being has been our landmark achievement.

A unique model for changing orphans’ lives

In addition to shelter, education, clothing and food, our children enjoy recreational activities to grow their interests and talents including sports days, music events and excursions. These create a safe and enjoyable environment for children to grow and thrive and excel in life beyond the Hope House.

Mahboba's Promise
Making a Difference

Mahboba’s Promise is an Australian non-profit committed to aiding underprivileged women and children and other vulnerable groups in Afghanistan and Australia.

Founded in 2001 by Mahboba Rawi, an Afghan refugee who is now an Australian citizen, the organisation was established based on her firsthand experience of the profound impact of decades of war and civil unrest on her home country.

For 22 years using her deep understanding of the challenges in Afghanistan, Mahboba’s Promise has been able to deliver responsive, adaptable and impactful assistance directly to orphans and widows in the country and surrounding regions.

Our Hope Houses have been the cornerstone of our sustainable development efforts in Afghanistan since our organisation’s inception.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a “Hope House” sponsorship? How does it work?

A Hope House sponsorship is a monthly commitment you make as a sponsor to our groundbreaking Hope Houses programs. Our 4 Hope Houses in Afghanistan have been the foundation of our efforts to lift the most vulnerable Afghan orphan children out of poverty and into a life of opportunity and potential.

How do Afghan children benefit from my support?

Operating across the Kabul, Takhar, Panjshir, and Badakhashan provinces, our four houses are a beacon of hope for vulnerable children, embodying our organisation’s commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of children affected by hardship. Fostering strong ties between our Hope Houses and the community they serve has been, and continues to be, vital to the success of our program.

In 2023, our Hope Houses supported 230 children, out of which 130 were girls. Our program’s holistic approach centres on three primary outcomes; psychological support, education and leadership development, and the provision of a safe and comfortable living environment

Can I pay for a sponsorship annually, instead?

At this stage, we are unable to offer annual, lump-sum payment options. For our work to succeed, we prefer that you choose a monthly, recurring sponsorship option. It really does help our work go that much further!

What do the different giving tiers / options allow?

We describe further above on this page what each option allows us to achieve. In 2023, our Hope Houses supported 230 children, out of which 130 were girls. Our program’s holistic approach centred on three primary outcomes; psychological support, education and leadership development, and the provision of a safe and comfortable living environment

What happens if I cancel the sponsorship?

If you cancel your sponsorship, we will stop debiting your bank account for your monthly sponsorship in the month immediately after your cancellation.
