Mahboba’s Promise: A Legacy Built on Zakat

Mahboba’s Promise was founded over two decades ago by Mahboba Rawi, a refugee who dedicated her life to supporting Afghanistan’s most vulnerable communities. What began as a personal mission has grown into a globally recognized humanitarian organisation that provides sustainable aid and empowerment programs to those in desperate need.

Our work focuses on long-term solutions, ensuring orphans receive education, widows gain financial independence, and communities become self-sufficient. With your monthly support, we can continue delivering essential services and fostering resilience in Afghanistan.

Zakat FAQ: Everything You Need to Know

Your questions answered.

Who is eligible to receive Zakat?

The Quran outlines eight categories, including the poor, needy, and orphans. This includes travelers in need, those in debt, new Muslims, those fighting for a just cause, and Zakat collectors.

What is the Nisab threshold for Zakat?

Equivalent to 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. If your savings exceed this threshold after one lunar year, Zakat is due on 2.5% of that amount.

Can I give Zakat to my family?

Not to direct dependents. Zakat cannot be given to parents, children, or spouses, but it can be given to other relatives in need.

Is my donation tax-deductible with Maboba’s Promise?

Yes. Donations made to Mahboba’s Promise are fully tax-deductible in Australia, and you will receive a receipt for your records.

How does Mahboba’s Promise distribute Zakat?

Funds are carefully allocated to projects such as orphan care, food aid, healthcare, and education, ensuring full Sharia compliance.
