President - Mahboba Rawi OAM
After fleeing Afghanistan in 1984 and spending the next two years in a Pakistani refugee camp, Mahboba Rawi witnessed firsthand the devastating effects that decades of conflict and oppression have had upon the country, and on its people. Despite suffering great personal hardship, Mahboba decided that she would dedicate her life to helping Afghanistan’s most helpless and she founded Mahboba’s Promise in 2001 in NSW,Australia.She made a promise "To never abandon the widows and orphans of Afghanistan, who had no-one else to turn to."Mahboba previously held the position of President before stepping down to focus on fundraising. Once again as president, she is excited at the prospect of new development opportunities.
Vice President - Khurshida Ajam
Khurshida has over 20 years experience in commercial and consulting roles in sales, marketing and medical education, working with companies such as Merck Sharp and Dohme Australia, Amgem Australia, DDB Remedy Advertising and Sonic Pathology. More recently she has focused on leadership development of individuals through executive business coaching.Khurshida holds a Bachelor of Psychology and a Master of Commerce from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) as well as an Executive Business Coaching Certificate, an Advanced Development Coaching Certificate (ICCP) and is accredited in the CPI 260 R Leadership Assessment Tool. She is a member of the American Society of Training and Development and has a passion for Women in Leadership.
Treasurer - Kumar Sri Pathma
Kumar Sri-Pathma is a member of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, United Kingdom (FCMA, CGMA). He has several years of Finance and Accounting experience working in Sri Lanka, Zambia, New Zealand and now in Australia.
Secretary - Martin O' Dea
Continues to bring his dedication to quality and eye for detail to improve systems and outcomes within the organisation. Martin aims to work towards continued streamlining of systems and completion of key guiding documents for the organisation including strategic and marketing plans, and assisting in meeting calendar dates for key compliance issues such as the Annual Report and appeals.
Management Committee Meetings
In 2007 Mahboba's Promise became a signatory to the Code of Conduct of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) which requires high standards of public accountability.
Management committee meetings are normally held on the last Monday of every month. Towards the end of the calendar year, we hold Annual General Meeting (AGM) to which all members are invited to nominate or to vote the members in the committee.
The organisation is registered as an NGO in Kabul, Afghanistan. The Kabul operation is an observer to the Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief (ACBAR) which has a Code of Conduct with similar principles to the ACFID Code.
